Golden hour in Puerto Rico moves fast — the sun drops close to the horizon quickly this near the equator. Get to west-facing spots at least 30 minutes before sunset to claim a good seat.

Punta Higüero Lighthouse
The best sunset on the west coast, hands down. Surfers on the water, a lighthouse behind you, and a horizon with nothing in the way.
Los Morrillos Cliffs
Red-and-white lighthouse, limestone cliffs, and a drop straight into deep blue water. Come for sunset, stay for the stars if the sky's clear.
El Yunque Summit
Earn this one — clear-day views from the peak stretch to the coast in every direction. Time the hike to be down before dark; there's no lighting on the trail.
Cerro Gordo Overlook
A north-coast lookout with an easy walk-up and a wide, uncrowded view of the shoreline. My pick when I want the moment without the crowd.
Gilligan's Island
A short water taxi to a mangrove islet, best timed for a sunset paddle back. Quiet, warm, and genuinely one of my favorite hours on the island.
The City Walls
Walk the 500-year-old fortifications as the sky turns pink over the Atlantic, then wander the cobblestone streets after dark. No car needed for this one.
